The East Garo hills in Meghalaya, a north eastern state has experienced an earthquake today(Sunday, 12th February 2016) at around 09:35 Am( Indian Standard Time).
The earthquake has been measured with a magnitude of 4.5 . As per the recent reports no loss of life and no loss of property has occurred which is great news!!.
The tremors have been felt near Delhi- NCR and northern India. The tremors were felt continuously for thirty five seconds.
The initial report by National Seismological Bureau said that the epicentre (the point on the Earth’s surface that is directly above the focus, the point where an earthquake or underground explosion originates) of the earthquake was Rudraprayag of Uttarakhand. They also said that the earthquakes were of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale and the earthquake took place at a depth of 33 metres.
A centrifuge is a machine with a rapidly rotating container that applies centrifugal force to its contents, typically to separate fluids of different densities (e.g. cream from milk) or liquids from solids.
Stanford engineers, including those of Indian-origin, have built an ultra-low cost human-powered centrifuge that separates blood components in just 1.5 minutes.
This enables treatment and diagnosis of HIV and tuberculosis. This centrifuge has been created by the use of paper, twine and plastic. It is also termed as a” paperfuge“. It can spin at the speeds of 125000 revolutions per minute and exert forces of 30,000 Gs.
Manu Prakash, an assistant professor of bioengineering said that” To the best of my knowledge, it is the fastest spinning machine driven by human power“.
This centrifuge separates blood components and makes pathogens easier to detect. This centrifuge has been inspired by spinning toys.

NASA says that “The Comet will be visible to skywatchers at Earth but it is not considered as a threat to the earth”.
A rare comet has been discovered by the scientists at NASA. The comet will be visible with the help of a good pair of binoculars.
The Comet, C/2016 UI NEOWISE, “has a good chance of becoming visible through a good pair of binoculars, although we can’t be sure because a comet’s brightness is notoriously unpredictable”, said Paul Chodas, a manager at NASA’s Near-Earth Object(NEO).
The comet will be visible in the first week of January.
Kudos to Paul and his team at Nasa.
An amazing discovery has been done by the scientists. Scientists have discovered aa new an organ: Mesentery.
The mesentery is a fold of the peritoneum ( a serous membrane that forms the lining of the abdominal cavity) which attaches the stomach, small intestine, pancreas, spleen, and other organs to the posterior wall of the abdomen.
Scientists have revealed that it is a continuous organ.
J Calvin Coffey, a researcher at the University Hospital Limerick said that” Now we have established anatomy and the structure. The next step is the function. If you understand the function you can identify abnormal function, and then you have a disease.”
According to some, it helps in controlling body fat. Medical students and researchers can now investigate what role the mesentery might play in abdominal diseases, which it is hoped could ultimately lead to new treatments.
This discovery has opened for new discoveries and inventions and may ultimately lead to a cure of abdominal diseases.
